The Drogheda Coast Guard Unit wishes family, friends and the community of Drogheda a very happy and safe new year.
As Ireland is experiencing some unusual but server weather the Drogheda Unit would like to take this opportunity to warn people of the dangerous of being near coastal water at this time. With high winds battering exposed coastal areas it can be expected that waves will be hitting the areas too, making it unsafe to be in the area. Also with this wind we are experiencing heavy rainfall. It is important to take care if crossing areas that have been flooded areas and if in doubt do not cross.
Before Christmas some members of the Drogheda Unit completed a quad course run by the Irish Coast Guard. This course was designed to make all users of the off road vehicle comfortable in its use in different situations. The course was held partially indoors however the practical element was held outside near Mornington on a very cold wet Sunday afternoon. Many thanks to the trainers coming up to give the course, especially on that cold day.
Remember - If you spot someone in trouble at sea, on the cliffs or coast, even if you 'think' that someone may be in trouble, dial 112/999 and ask for the Coast Guard. If you are in trouble at sea, call on VHF Channel 16, MF 2182 KHz or use DSC.
